I recently attended a crafting retreat hosted by Kurstan and she taught us several amazing watercolor techniques. We created this card featuring the Just Because Hostess set and a watercolored background.
We did a watercolor wash with Balmy Blue and Granny Apple Green ink on a piece of watercolor paper with our Aqua Painter, then used the Rectangle Stitched dies to cut out the center to use on our note card.
We stamped the pot image with Versamark ink and heat embossed it with White Embossing Powder. Then we splattered some Granny Apple Green ink with our Aqua Painter onto the finished rectangle, and colored in the leaves for some additional green pops of color with the Aqua Painter and Granny Apple Green ink.
The Stitched Rectangle is mounted to a piece of Balmy Blue cardstock and onto designer paper (now retired Sale-a-Bration paper) and then onto a Whisper White Note Card.
Can you tell we were all having WAY TOO MUCH FUN!? Check out Kurstan’s event schedule HERE. If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area, I hope you’ll consider joining us at an upcoming event!
I'm not sure if you feel this way, but sometimes I feel like the Hostess sets in the back of the Stampin' Up! catalog get overlooked. I particularly LOVE this Best Thoughts set (probably because I love to color) and if you love to color, too, this is a great set to have in your craft room!
I know it's hard to see in this photo, but I colored with my Wink of Stella glimmer pen and you can SEE THE VIDEO TUTORIAL here for how to do that technique.
I think you can see the Wink of Stella Glimmer a little better in this photo:
Remember my "left-overs" bin of die cuts and tags that I shared with you here? Well, that butterfly and greeting were in that box, so I decided to add them to this card!
I also added just a strip of paper that was left over on my desk to the left side of this card… I like it when left-overs can be repurposed!!
Take a look at the hostess sets below..these are all available for any orders over $150 – you earn hostess $$ to spend on any order over $150 and you can use those hostess $$ to buy any of these items!
Many of you have probably seen this #imbringingbirthdaysback hashtag on Facebook over the past several months, and today we are celebrating Shannon's birthday, the creator of this movement to Bring Birthdays Back!! Shannon felt that wishing people happy birthday on facebook was not allowing us the opportunity to do what we do best… create and send cards!
So, Shannon, thank you for encouraging all of us to Bring Birthdays back by sending a special birthday card in the mail, and here's to your special day and to a year filled with many blessings!
I mailed this stamped card to Shannon last week and I hope she received it in time to help celebrate her special day!
I used the beautiful hostess stamp set called "Best Thoughts". You'll find it on pg 180 of the current annual catalog. Did you know you can purchase this set with $10 of your hostess dollars? And that you earn hostess dollars to spend on anything you want when your Stampin' UP! order is $150 or more!? Well, now you know 🙂
Shannon stamps her #imbringingbirthdaysback stamp on the envelope of all the birthday cards she mails out to hundreds of people! So, I did the same 🙂
I think I may have overdone it on her card.. at the last minute I stamped the swirly border around the piece of whisper white cardstock… but I hope she still likes it! The swirly border is from the fabulous Tin of Cards stamp set (see it here).
This is the beautiful Shannon West in a recent photo, doing what else but addressing more birthday cards!
And below is Sara Douglass, CEO of Stampin' UP! showing off the amazing #imbringingbirthdaysback stamp – now available to everyone!! Click to order yours!
What an honor to be asked to participate on a global design team in a blog hop featuring Fancy Folds cards! My friend Patrice Halliday-Larsen from New Zealand asked me to be a part of this fun new team! Our cards today feature the Easel style card.
I am participating in a blog hop with 7 other Stampin' Up! demonstrators from all over the world.. I hope you enjoy the tour and visit each blog for more Easel Card design ideas!
My card starts out as a 4-1/4" x 8-1/2" card. You can find full Easel Card instructions in the video below in this blog post!
BELOW: The great part about this card is that you can stand it up to display and enjoy the artwork on the card front, but also easily fold it flat to mail it!
Isn't that great that it just folds flat for mailing!?
Watch my video below for cutting and folding instructions for the Easel Card.
If you have trouble viewing the video, see it HERE on YouTube.
My 2 secret weapons for coloring this card are the Stampin' UP! AquaPainter and the Clear Wink of Stella pen. The AquaPainter helps flow the ink color on the pretty floral stamp from the Best Thoughts hostess set from Stampin' Up!, and the Wink of Stella pen gives a pretty shimmery shine to the finished artwork! I have a video tutorial for this type of watercoloring HERE.
I love the bold contrast of the Mossy Meadow "grid paper" pattern and the black and white script pattern, with the beautiful flower! Both paper strips were from the Going Places paper stack, found on pg 39 of the 2016 Occasions Catalog.
Remember, the hostess sets can only be purchased with hostess dollars. You can earn those with any order of $150 or more.
The squiggle border stamp is from the Tin of Card stamp set and the Thank You is found in the Rose Wonder stamp set. If you are in the US, all items may be purchased in my online store.. all Stampin' Up! product shopping links are at the bottom of this post.

Have you been enjoying your Blendabillities Markers from Stampin' Up!? I love coloring with mine.. it's like a flashback to my childhood and Crayola Crayons, coloring books, activity books… did you love all those activities too? Were you a color in the lines person? I WAS!!
Did you Know? a bundle of Blendabilities Markers will be ON SALE on Monday, Dec. 1st!? :) Check back here on Dec. 1st for the link, or check my online store on Dec. 1 for the 1 day Door Buster Deals!
Today's Stampin' Up! card features the Hostess set called Bloom with Hope, and I colored it with 3 different sets of Blendabilities Markers.. .Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie and Skin Tones. I enjoyed blending colors from all of those packages on the stamped flower images. Remember, when you are coloring with Blendabilties, be sure your image is stamped with a Memento Tuxedo Black ink pad on Whisper White cardstock for best results.
I die cut a flower using the Flower Fair framelit set and some scraps of designer series paper from the Moonlight Paper Stack – in fact the great bold striped background is from the same pack! I added punched out pieces for the flower center (see product photos below for more info/ordering links). A Candy Dot is the perfect last embellishment on the card. Kind of like the period at the end of the sentence.. right?
