How to watercolor on Stampin' UP! Memories & More Petal Passion floral cards by Patty Bennett

I love these beautiful floral cards... the pack includes 72 double sided preprinted cards, and I grabbed my Stampin' Up! reinkers, a clear block and my Aqua Painters and just started coloring them in!!  How easy, and how pretty!

You can leave them black and white, or color them in with Stampin' Blends, markers, sponge daubers, watercolor pencils, Brusho, or watercolor them like I did here.

Stampin' UP! Memories & More Petal Passion floral cards watercolored by Patty Bennett

As you can see, I used these cards to tuck into the Prize Patrol gifts I'm mailing to my Luv 2 Stamp Group team this month.  I stamped them with a stamp that my niece, Holly, made for me.  You can check out her Etsy store here.

How to Color the Petal Passion cards:

Simply drop a couple drops of each color you want to use onto a clear block, then pick up some color with your wet Aqua Painter and start coloring in!   DO NOT USE too much water, as these are not watercolor paper, but you can still very easily blend and shade with more than one color like I did here.

Painted Harvest Sunflower turned Poinsettia!

 STAMPARATUS RESERVATION REMINDER!

Today is the day! Thurs., Nov. 16, 2pm MT

CLICK HERE for all the details!

-------------

Now that you have mostly likely ordered the very popular Stampin' Up! Painted Harvest Bundle (or stamp set), I thought you might enjoy this idea to stretch your "sunflower" stamp image and learn how to create a poinsettia flower with it to create a holiday or Christmas card!

Painted Harvest sunflower stamp from the Stampin' Up! Holiday catalog becomes a poinsettia with watercolor paper and a stampin' spritzer with water. Holiday / Christmas card idea from Patty Bennett

I used Stampin' Up! Watercolor paper and a Stampin' Spritzer filled with water to create this beautiful holiday card idea, turning the sunflower into a poinsettia!

Color combo for Painted Harvest sunflower stamp from the Stampin' Up! Holiday catalog becomes a poinsettia with watercolor paper and a stampin' spritzer with water. Holiday / Christmas card idea from Patty Bennett

It's really quite easy, simply use the Cherry Cobbler and Rose Red ink pads (per above) and stamp them onto Watercolor paper with the Painted Harvest Sunflower image and then spritz with water and the Stampin' Spritzer until you have achieved the look you want!

Then stamp the center when the flower is dry.  I used Daffodil Delight ink.

Create watercolor poinsettia flowers with the Stampin' Up! Painted Harvest stamp set.

Tip!

For a fun layered greeting on any card, layer the Stitched Shape framelits and the layering ovals, circles or squares!

Stamping Tip: Use the Stampin' Up! Stitched Shape framelits and Layering Ovals to create lovely matted greetings for your handmade cards.

patty bennett youtube channelIf you have not used the Stitched Shape framelits and Layering Ovals, watch my free video tutorial HERE.

I stamped the Season of Cheer greeting (from the Watercolor Christmas stamp set) onto Very Vanilla Cardstock, then die cut it with the Stitched Shape Oval, and used Cherry Cobbler cardstock and the Layering Ovals framelits to make the scalloped border.  A few Gold Metallic shapes werethe perfect little touch to finish the card.

This card was created on a Cherry Cobbler folded card base, and the beautiful diagonal striped Old Olive printed paper is found in the Merry Little Christmas package of paper, pg 12, in the 2017 Stampin' Up! Holiday catalog.  The Gold edge ribbon is on page 199 in the annual catalog.  See below for links to all Stampin' Up! products in my online store.

Rose Garden Thinlit Watercolor Cards

Flowers flowers flowers... I love flowers and I love creating Stampin Up! cards with flower stamps, flower die cuts and floral printed paper!  Today's handstamped card features all 3!

Rose Garden thinlit floral cards on watercolor background paper featuring Stampin Up! ink, paper, dies and stamps, by Patty Bennett

I enjoyed creating several cards using the Rose Garden thinlit die and some watercolor paper I had left over from my High Tide Lighthouse cards (here).  After I was done making several High Tide cards, I set aside the left over watercolored backgrounds and I knew I'd enjoy making something with them at a future date.

And.. ta-da! I used the leftover watercolor backgrounds with the Rose Garden thinlit and die cut pretty roses and leaves in my Big Shot!!  I also die cut some dragonflies with the Detailed Dragonfly thinlits and the same watercolored backgrounds.

On the card above, I also decided to lightly stamp the floral image from the Wood Words stamp set over the water color background. I love how it turned out!  Click HERE to see how to make that smoosh watercolor background!

Rose Garden thinlit floral cards on watercolor background paper featuring Stampin Up! ink, paper, dies and stamps, by Patty Bennett. Greeting from the Ribbon of Courage stamp set.

I made the card above in May for Christine's birthday in June.  I added the Live every moment sentiment from the Ribbon of Courage stamp set to the front, and also decided, why not make the inside pretty as well?  I had the Wood Words flower stamp out, and an extra dragonfly die cut.. so.... this is what I did...

Rose Garden thinlit floral cards on watercolor background paper featuring Stampin Up! ink, paper, dies and stamps, by Patty Bennett. Inside featured dragonflies die cut with the Details Dragonfly thinlit.

Easy crafting tip to adhere the dragonfly die cut to your card:

Craft TiP! use your paper piercer, and pick up glue dots to place on your die cuts!

These are some of the backgrounds I created for the High Tide cards, and I die cut the large roses and leaves, as well as the dragonflies out of the left over pieces.

Here are the die cuts on the left over watercolor background pieces... neat way to use up extras, don't you think?

White Perfect Accents are great for flower centers, and the Powder Pink ribbon looks great on this card, too!

I added a strip of Powder Pink "Fresh Florals" designer paper on the right edge of this card to pull in that pretty pink color and more flowers.

Watercolor Wash background - Beautiful You cards

Beautiful You Watercolor Wash background cards by Patty Bennett, featuring Stampin' Up! stamps, watercolor paper, reinkers and an Aquapainter

These cards just make me happy.. I love the Beautiful You stamp set and the free flowing watercolor wash background I created for these wonderful stamped ladies!  The Beautiful You stamp set is available in both wood mount and clear mount versions, my personal preference is wood mount, but both are great. See more about our 3 stamp options HERE.

If you have been following me for awhile, you probably know that I am really partial to backgrounds created with a simple, yet colorful watercolor background wash.  I created these Beautiful You note cards with Stampin' Up! watercolor paper, an Aquapainter, water and reinkers in Bermuda Bay,  Peekaboo Peach, Crushed Curry, Flirty Flamingo and Pumpkin Pie.

Easy Online Shopping:  All card making supplies for this project are available in my online store. Scroll to the bottom of this post to view all of the products used, click on any product to go to my online store.

Beautiful You Watercolor Wash background cards by Patty Bennett, featuring Stampin' Up! stamps, watercolor paper, reinkers and an Aquapainter

For the watercolor background on these cards, I simply used an Aquapinter brush to wet my Stampin' Up! watercolor paper, then dipped the tip into drops of Stampin' Up! reinker ink and washed across the wet paper.  Let the colors bleed and flow to mix and make new colors!

You might have noticed on the photo above, I mounted my finished watercolor masterpiece :) onto both a Bermuda Bay and a Flirty Flamingo card base... I really liked both of them.. couldn't decide which one I liked better.. each one pulls out different coloring in the background!

Do you have a preference? The Bermuda Bay or Flirty Flamingo cardstock base?

After the background was dry, I stamped the lady in Archival Black ink and then added a bit of color to her dress, hat or umbrella with the Watercolor Pencils, blended it slightly with just a little more water, and that was it... very simple and quick card!

Beautiful You Watercolor Cards

I have been having so much fun playing with the Stampin' Up! Watercolor Pencils, Blender Pens and Aquapainters to color the lady images in the Beautiful You stamp set from Stampin' Up!.  I recently shared this note card idea with Cindee and showed her how I colored in the lady's dress and cut the umbrella image out of printed paper to create the "lady walking in the rain" cards below.

Today I'm sharing a Video Tutorial with you to show you how easy it is to color in the stamped dress image and create the rain with the Gorgeous Grunge speckle stamp.

Beautiful You "lady in the rain" note cards colored with Watercolor Pencils. Serene Scenery paper stack background and Gorgeous Grunge raindrops. By Patty Bennett

The fabulous Beautiful You stamp set AND the Watercolor pencils are both on page 24 of the current 2017 Occasions catalog. You can also find them in my online store by clicking any of the product images at the bottom of this blog post.

One secret ingredient on these cards is the printed background paper - found in the Serene Scenery paper stack!  It's perfect for these rainy day cards.

Please enjoy the VIDEO TUTORIAL below with a quick 1 minute tip for coloring her red dress with Watercolor Pencils.

If you are reading this in an email, please CLICK HERE to watch the video on my blog.

After adding Real Red and Calpyso Coral Watercolor Pencil to the stamped image, I also added a pop of Real Red Stampin' Write marker ink to give it a bit more depth of color.  You can see all of the instructions in the video above.

Watch the video to see all the details about stamping the umbrella onto a small patterned paper scrap and adding that to the finished card.  Fun way to create a quick patterned umbrella!

After cutting the lady out with my Paper Snips, I added her to the card with Tombow Multi Purpose glue.

All of the cards in today's post are mounted onto a Whisper White or Crumb Cake Note Card.  I love these handy note cards that come cut and scored and include envelopes in the package!!

I used 2 of the Stampin' Up! Watercolor Pencils to color the dress. I blended both Real Red and Calypso Coral with the Blender pen.  I also added a touch of my Real Red Stampin' Write marker for added depth and color.

And on my last sample, I decided she needed a peppy yellow umbrella, so I colored it with the Daffodil Delight watercolor pencil AND the Daffodil Delight Stampin' Write marker, and blended with the Blender Pen.

I stamped the greeting/sentiment onto watercolor paper and die cut it with the Stitched Shape framelits.

For this card, I die cut cardstock vellum with the Sunburst thinlit and colored it with the Daffodil Delight ink pad and sponge daubers, then added the "rays" to the card like light from the lighthouse.  See the VIDEO above for all the details.

Tip for stamping the lighthouse stamps from the High Tide Stampin' Up! set by Patty Bennett

For tips on stamping the lighthouse, and adding a little deeper color with your Stampin' Write marker, watch the video above in this blog post.

I found that I liked the Smoky Slate ink for the "shadow" of the lighthouse image the best.  I'm sure you will find lots of color combos you like!  It's fun to experiment! Just be sure to write them down so that you'll remember what you tried!

After stamping the lighthouse and "sand" on the separate piece of watercolor paper, I cut it out by hand and added it to the front of the card with a ton of Stampin' Dimensionals.

Hey, Chick, Happy Birthday!!!

Hey, Chick, Happy Birthday!! :)  This fun chicken set has really set the Stampin' Up! Sale-a-Bration world on fire.. it was the first Sale-a-Bration set to go on backorder this year as far as I know!!!  :)  That totally speaks to its popularity! (You'll find it on page 27 of the Sale-a-Bration brochure this year).

My friend Cindee and I loved a card our Stampin' Up! friend Billie Moan did similar to this and one day when we were stamping together, we created "our version" of Billie's card.  Thanks Billie for always being an amazing inspiration!

Happy Birthday Hey, Chick card from Stampin' Up! Sale-a-Bration 2017. Colored with Stampin' Up! watercolor pencils. Stitched Shape & Layering Square framelits.

During Sale a Bration 2017, you can select this cute Hey, Chick set (or one of the other dozen offerings) FREE with your $50 online Stampin' Up! order

To create the fun chickenwire background pattern, we swiped the Soft Suede ink pad over one face of the inside of the Hexagons Dynamic Textured embossing folder, placed our Sahara Sand cardstock panel (4" x 5-1/4") inside the embossing folder, then just pressed with our fingers.  That's it.. no "Big Shot embossing".   What a perfect background for these fun chickens!!

Create a Chickenwire background with the Hexagon embossing folder for this Happy Birthday Hey, Chick card from Stampin' Up! Sale-a-Bration 2017. Colored with Stampin' Up! watercolor pencils. Stitched Shape & Layering Square framelits.

As you can see below when you use this great Hexagons Dynamic Embossing folder with cardstock or foil paper in the Big Shot it creates AMAZING, fabulous, detailed embossed images!!!  Below, I used the Silver Foil Paper, Copper Foil paper and Basic Gray cardstock.

We stamped these silly chickens with Archival Black ink on Stampin' UP! watercolor paper squares die cut with the Stitched Shape framelits, then colored them in with the new Stampin' Up! watercolor pencils.  Oh boy are they DIVINE!! I love them!!!  We blended the colors with an AquaPainter. You can also use Stampin' Up! Blender Pens.. those blend the color perfectly, too!

Each watercolor square is framed with a scalloped Real Red square die cut with the Layering Squares framelit dies.

All of these products may be purchased in my online store, by clicking any of the product photos at the bottom of this post.

Happy Birthday Hey, Chick card from Stampin' Up! Sale-a-Bration 2017. Colored with Stampin' Up! watercolor pencils. Stitched Shape & Layering Square framelits.

I turned my card horizontal, (Billie made hers vertical) and I stamped Happy Birthday from the Birthday Bright stamp set (page 13, of the 2017 Occasions catalog) in Soft Suede ink.  I also added Red 3/8" Stitched Satin Ribbon to really make the bright colors of this card pop off the Sahara Sand background.

Color Fusers Blog Hop IS BACK! January 2017

After a little winter break, the amazing Color Fusers Design Team is BACK!!

We are excited to bring you a fun line up of projects today, all featuring this amazing, fresh Stampin' Up! color combo of Crushed Curry, Tangerine Tango, Sweet Sugarplum and Very Vanilla!

Color Fusers Blog Hop color combo for January 2017. Stampin' Up! colors Crushed Curry, Tangerine Tango, Sweet Sugarplum and Very Vanilla

Stampin Up! Occasions catalog Succulent Garden framelit die flowers, Vertical Garden Hello stamp and watercolor wash background card. Color Fusers January 2017 color combo. Card by Patty Bennett

I was in a watercoloring mood, so I created the background of this top fold card with Stampin' Up! watercolor paper, reinkers and my AquaPainter.  The folded card is a Stampin' Up! In Color: Sweet Sugarplum.

I wet the watercolor paper, turned it over and wet the other side, then added color from the drops of reinker using my AquaPainter.  By wetting both sides, the paper doesn't curl :)

I let the colors bleed together and enjoyed the results!

Note: Sweet Sugarplum on watercolor paper (it's a vanilla color) is brown-ish compared to putting it on white.. but it's still pretty!

I stamped the Hello stamp from the Vertical Garden set (new in the 2017 Occasions catalog, page 22, #142996) in Sweet Sugarplum on Very Vanilla cardstock.  It's a 2 step stamp, so it gives you that shadow effect!

Here is a fun crafting tip for you ... after cutting the pieces of Stampin' Up! watercolor paper for my cards, I ended up with strips left over.  I dabbed on some water and some color and then die cut the flowers using up the scraps!!  How great is that!?

Watercolor Wash craft tip.. use up scraps of watercolor paper by dabbing on color and then die cutting or punching shapes! by Patty Bennett

I added the die cut flowers from the Succulent framelits set (pg 21 in the Occasions catalog, #142757) with glue dots to my card and topped off each one with the gold Metallic Enamel shape.

A piece of gold 1/4" Natural trim ribbon finished off the card.

Detailed Dragonfly thinlit cards featuring the watercolor pencil background technique, from the Stampin' Up! 2017 Occasions catalog. Cards by Cindee, Lisa and Patty

The Dragonfly cards I'm sharing today all feature watercolor backgrounds, and the Detailed Dragonfly thinlits die cuts, as well as greetings stamped from the Dragonfly Dreams stamp sets, created by Cindee, Lisa and Patty (that's me!). :)

We have a MINI BLOG HOP for you today.. please be sure to visit Cindee and Lisa's blogs today (links at the bottom of this post).

All of these supplies are available through my Stampin' Up! store (here), but PLEASE NOTE, all 2017 Occasions catalog products are available AFTER 1/4/17!

We created these together one day after seeing Stampin' Up! Co-founder, Shelli Gardner demonstrate this technique idea at  a recent Stampin' Up! OnStage event.  She used the new Watercolor Pencils for the background.  We used the watercolor pencils on 3 of the cards above and used a different watercolor background technique on the other 3 cards.

I mounted my watercolor paper onto a top fold Peekaboo Peach card, and then tied the new Sweet Sugarplum 3/8" ribbon around the card.   Even though this card is striking and somewhat bold, it's also very soft and soothing!  The die cut dragonfly piece is adhered with about 5 glue dots.  Really easy to attach to the card!   I speckled the card by flicking some Gold Wink of Stella onto the finished card.

Today I'm sharing the watercolor pencil background technique with you and will share the other background technique with you soon!

As you can see by the "how to" watercolor background tutorial above, it's really pretty easy.   Color the watercolor pencils onto your watercolor paper, wash over the color with an AquaPainter or wet paint brush and let dry!!! wow!!!

You can really see the pretty Gold Wink of Stella dots on this photo above.. such a neat addition to most any card!

When the card is totally dry, stamp the greeting using the Stampin' Up! Basic Black Archival ink pad.

Amazing Faux Watercolor Fall Leaf Cards

Watercolor like a pro... it's easy with Faux Watercoloring!

You must trust me on this ... these cards are 100x prettier in person than the photos convey.. these Faux Watercolor Fall Leaf cards are GORGEOUS!  My friend Cindee taught me how to make these and they are wonderful! They are stamped with the Vintage Leaves stamp set from Stampin' Up!

Faux Watercolor technique featuring Stampin' UP! Vintage Leaves stamp set, aquapainters and wink of stella. www.PattyStamps.com

This Faux Watercolor technique is really so simple..

1.  Stamp your Vintage Leaves stamp images with Stampin' Up! classic ink pads on Watercolor paper

2.  Use your Aquapainter to apply water to the stamped image

3.  Paint over the wet leaves with the Clear Wink of Stella glimmer pen

4.  Splatter some Gold Wink of Stella on finished project

It's best to do steps 1-3 quickly, or, do 1 leaf at a time.. don't let the stamped image completely dry before adding water.

You can also stamp off some of the images first, so that some are lighter and with less detail.

I hope you purchased the Thoughtful Branches Bundle!

I'm hoping you've purchased the Thoughtful Branches Bundle... Because.. I know you love using it for all 4 seasons!  It's a limited time offer stamp set and matching big shot framelit die set only available in August!!!  I LOVE the versatility of this set..  you can see some of the projects I've created with it at the bottom of this post.  Buy it here in my online store.

Today I am featuring 3 different watercolor wash background cards using the Thoughtful Branches stamp set and dies in different ways.

Thoughtful Branches Christmas card with watercolor wash background. card by Patty Bennett at pattystamps.com

Each of these cards is created with a 3-3/4" x 5" piece of watercolor paper, layered onto Island Indigo or Whisper White cardstock, and onto a Marina Mist or Island Indigo folded card.

I kept the color scheme very simple, and almost monochromatic for these winter or Christmas cards.

The card below has the tree die cut layered on top of the watercolor wash, and the greeting is from the Thoughtful Branches stamp set.  Be sure to stamp the greeting after the watercolor wash background has dried.

Thoughtful Branches card with watercolor wash background. card by Patty Bennett at pattystamps.com

To create the watercolor wash background, use a 1" wide flat watercolor brush or Aqua Painter and dip into Marina Mist (or any blue) ink, but be sure to use a generous amount of water.  Wash back and forth onto your watercolor paper a few times.  THEN STOP.  I know you will want to "fuss" with it, but don't.  Just let it dry.. it will be beautiful :)

To create the white trees, stamp the trees in Versamark ink onto the watercolor paper and heat emboss them with clear embossing powder BEFORE doing the watercolor wash.  The wash will go right over the embossed images.

To create the beautiful copper stamped greeting, stamp the image from the Embellished Ornaments set in versamark ink and heat emboss with Copper embossing powder, then cut out with the Layering Ovals framelits.

Ombre Ink Pad Background Floral Cards

These beautiful Ombre Watercolor backgrounds might look familiar.. I shared a video with you a month or so ago with the instructions to make them (I've shared it at the end of this post as well).  I made more of these beautiful backgrounds featuring the Detailed Floral Thinlit dies and decorated the cards with the Falling Flowers stamp set, also stamped with the Ombre ink pads!

After creating the ombre watercolor backgrounds, I stamped the flowers with the Ombre ink pads, die cut them, and added them to the cards.  I love how the color theme carries through.

The flowers are stamped with the Falling Flowers stamp set (pg 127 Annual Stampin' UP! catalog), and the Ombre Ink pads (pg 180).  The May Flowers framelits perfectly die cut the flowers!!! They are on pg 194 and you can also purchase them in a money saving bundle in wood mount or clear mount.

The green petals are also from the May Flowers Framelit dies, die cut in Emerald Envy cardstock.
