How to stamp the High Tide Lighthouse and create a watercolor background - video tutorial

I had a vision in my head... and I'm not sure why that included a red sky.. I guess it was a dramatic sunset... but these lighthouse cards are what came out of my vision.. a dramatic watercolor wash background for my High Tide stamp set cards!

I hope you will watch my VIDEO TUTORIAL below in this post to see how I made these and to hear about the tips and additional components I added to these cards!

Fun Tips To Note:

  • all of the watercolor wash backgrounds turn out different
  • it's fun to experiment with different colors
  • the High Tide stamp set has some GREAT sentiments/greeting images
  • grass from the Basket Builder framelits is perfect on these cards
  • vellum die cut with the Sunburst Thinlit makes great "light" for the lighthouse

I think you'll be amazed at the color palette I used to make these cards and how easy the watercolor background is to create with the Stampin' Up! Clear Block E, a few ink pads and watercolor paper!!  Be sure to watch the video for all the fun details.

I stamped the greeting/sentiment onto watercolor paper and die cut it with the Stitched Shape framelits.

For this card, I die cut cardstock vellum with the Sunburst thinlit and colored it with the Daffodil Delight ink pad and sponge daubers, then added the "rays" to the card like light from the lighthouse.  See the VIDEO above for all the details.

Above:  I loved the printed paper background addition to this card.. a piece of "sunburst" printed paper from the Cupcakes & Carousels paper stack was perfect for the background of this card!!  :)

Above/Below: the grass die cut piece from the Basket Builder framelit set (pg 18 Occasions catalog) was the perfect addition to some of my lighthouse cards.  I die cut it out of Crumb Cake cardstock then sponged some Old Olive and Soft Suede ink onto it.

Tip for stamping the lighthouse stamps from the High Tide Stampin' Up! set by Patty Bennett

For tips on stamping the lighthouse, and adding a little deeper color with your Stampin' Write marker, watch the video above in this blog post.

I found that I liked the Smoky Slate ink for the "shadow" of the lighthouse image the best.  I'm sure you will find lots of color combos you like!  It's fun to experiment! Just be sure to write them down so that you'll remember what you tried!

After stamping the lighthouse and "sand" on the separate piece of watercolor paper, I cut it out by hand and added it to the front of the card with a ton of Stampin' Dimensionals.

How to Quickly Color the Inside the Lines Sale-a-Bration paper

Today's secret weapon:  Stampin' Spritzers!

Quickly color the 12x12 sheet of black and white "Inside the Lines" Stampin' Up! Sale-a-Bration paper to use on your crafting creations!

Stampin' Up! Inside the Lines coloring designer paper from Sale-a-Bration 2017 colored with Stampin' Spritzers on Thank You Note Cards by Patty Bennett

This unique and fun, FREE Sale a Bration "Inside the Lines" paper is amazing, and especially appealing to those who LOVE to color like me, but, if you want an alternative to hours of coloring, try this spritzing method!

I filled my Stampin' Spritzers with rubbing alcohol and drops of reinker, and spritzed the paper super quickly!!  Read on for all the details:

You will find this fun paper on page 11 of the 2017 Stampin' UP! Sale-a-Bration brochure.  Here is what the "Inside the Lines" (free Sale a Bration 2017) paper looks like in this package when you open it... 12 sheets of black and white printed designs:

Stampin Up! Inside the Lines "coloring book paper" - free gift choice with $50 purchase in my online store through March 30, 2017, www.pattystamps.com

If you want to grab your markers, colored pencils, paint brush, etc., that's a GREAT way to color the intricate designs, but if you need to color lots of this paper FAST, grab some Stampin' Spritzers, fill with rubbing alcohol (or water) and several drops of Stampin' Up! ink refill in each one, and spritz away!

As you can see below, I put my 12x12 paper in a recycled Stampin' UP! shipping box so that I wouldn't "overspray" in my craft room.

Use Stampin Spritzers to quickly color your Stampin Up! Inside the Lines "coloring book paper" - free gift choice with $50 purchase in my online store through March 30, 2017, www.pattystamps.com

I started by spritzing most of the paper with Daffodil Delight, then added spritzes of Watermelon Wonder and Calypso Coral.  It looks splotchy at first, but dries to a lovely finish.

Use Stampin Spritzers to quickly color the Stampin Up! Inside the Lines "coloring book paper" - free gift choice with $50 purchase in my online store through March 30, 2017, www.pattystamps.com

I like to use rubbing alcohol in my spritzers so that it dries quickly, and doesn't warp like water will.  Add as many or as few drops of reinker as you wish.. I do about 10 drops per filled spritzer.

Before and after using Stampin' Spritzers on the Stampin Up! Inside the Lines "coloring book paper" - free gift choice with $50 purchase in my online store through March 30, 2017, www.pattystamps.com

Then it's easy to cut the dry 12x12 piece into whatever sizes you need for your project.  I used them on 3-1/2"x5" Stampin' Up! Note Cards.

I die cut the So Detailed thinlit in So Saffron cardstock, wrapped each one around the Inside the Lines DSP piece and added it to each Note Card.

I stamped lots of thank you images in Stitched Shape die cut circles, and layered them on scalloped circles from the Layering Circles framelit pack and Calypso Coral cardstock.  The amazing Stitched Shape framelits are NOW AVAILABLE AGAIN HERE in my online store!!  Click here for my video to see how well the Stitched Shape framelits work with the Layering Circles framelits!

I added my favorite new accessory, the Lace Doilies, behind the scalloped circle as well.

Pretty Pines Holiday Card

I am delighted to share a pretty card with you today, designed by my friend Cindee.  We made this card when we got together to stamp a few weeks ago...  she used the gorgeous Christmas Pines / Pretty Pines bundle from page 19 of the 2016 Stampin' UP! Holiday catalog.  You'll also recognize the pine boughs because they form the wreath on the cover of the Holiday catalog!

Pretty Pines / Christmas Pines Stampin' UP! Christmas card idea featuring the Brick Wall embossing folder and Copper Foil sheets. www.PattyStamps.com

The background of this lovely card features the Brick Wall embossing folder (pg 195 annual catalog #138288) and then we "built" our pine bough decoration on top of the background.  See my 3 crafting tips below for an easy way to "assemble" or "build" your pine bough decoration after die cutting them with green cardstock.

Great tips, right!?

Below is a visual for you.. the Pretty Pines thinlit dies and the Brick Wall embossing folder we used on this project.

Be sure to give your brick wall a little definition by lightly sponging some ink on the raised bricks!

The pinecones and bows were die cut with the Copper Foil paper.. wow are they pretty in person!  A little hard to photograph, but I did my best.

The brick background piece is on a folded Cherry Cobbler card, and the greeting was stamped in Cherry Cobbler as well, to tie in the Christmas  colors.

Fall Leaf Watercolor Wash Background Video Tutorial

I am super excited to share a video tutorial with you today, so that you can create these gorgeous fall leaves and make these fun fall cards using your Stampin' UP! watercolor paper, reinkers, an Aquapainter and a Gold Wink of Stella pen!

Stampin UP! fall leaf cards featuring watercolor wash background and the Leaflet framelits. Watch the video tutorial for all the details from pattystamps.com

I couldn't stop making these cards with the Leaflets framelits! I made about 30 cards.. it's so fun to watercolor these pretty backgrounds and die cut these beautiful leaves!

All of the cards feature the Woodland embossing folder in the background and the pretty leaves are attached on top of the folder background.  Watch the video below for all the details and tips for adding the leaves! :)

The Give Thanks greeting is new, from the 2016 Holiday catalog, page 43, in the Suite Seasons stamp set.  I stamped it in Early Espresso ink onto Very Vanilla cardstock, and punched the left end with the Banner Triple Punch.

The ribbon is 2 layers: 5/8" burlap ribbon and 1/4" natural trim gold ribbon, both on pg 178 in the annual catalog.  I find the burlap kind of bulky for knots or bows, so I just put a strip of it on the card.. you'll see that in the video. Then I tied the gold natural ribbon around this top-fold card.

One thing you'll notice as you make these, every one of these cards turns out different.  I just love them!  Watch the video below to see how I created the waterecolor backgrounds and also a tip for die cutting the watercolor paper and the Pumpkin Pie glimmer paper.

  • when dry, splatter Gold Wink of Stella onto the watercolored paper
  • die cut with Leaflet Framelits and Botanical Builder leaf framelits
  • apply to card or crafting project

Find all the details in the video above in this blog post.

Cutest Halloween Card EVER!

Trick or Treat!!!

Today I'm excited to share the Cutest Stampin' Up! Halloween Card ever, and a great MUMMY tip!! :)

Halloween Trick or Treat card featuring Stampin' UP! Cookie Cutter Halloween mummy, dracula and skeleton. Halloween Scenes die cut background tree and fence create the perfect backdrop. by Patty Bennett at www.PattyStamps.com

When I stamped with my friend Cindee a couple weeks ago, I brought the "fixins" for this card and we both made it.. it's SOOOO cute and super easy with the Halloween Scenes Edgelit dies for the tree and fence, and the Cookie Cutter Halloween guys for the rest of the card!

Patty's Halloween Card Tips:

  • Little Dracula: be sure your black pad is well inked for this image.. I used my Archival Black ink pad and then colored in the vest and shirt with Stampin' Write markers
  • Mummy:  see my tip below for adding subtle coloring/shading to the mummy using the "wash" stamp from the Perpetual Birthday set
  • Fence:  the fence die cut is not quite long enough to go across a 5-1/4" card, so I matched it up in the big shot and cut it twice
  • Moon:  sponge some Calypso Coral, or Pumpkin Pie ink onto Daffodil Delight yellow cardstock then punch with your circle punch for a perfect moon!
  • Punch them!  Never fear.. you don't need to fussy cut the cute little characters.. just use the Cookie Cutter Builder punch found on page 6 of the 2016 Stampin' UP! Holiday Catalog.

Shading Tip for Cookie Cutter Halloween mummy - stamp edges with a "wash" image stamp like this one from the Perpetual Birthday calendar set! by Patty Bennett at www.PattyStamps.com

Always stamp first, then turn your punch over and punch out your image for perfect placement!

Cookie Cutter Halloween mummy punch tip: always stamp your image first, then flip the punch over to punch out a perfectly aligned image.

Tip to make your fence longer for a wider card:

Halloween Scenes fence die cutting tip: Cut image once, then realign the die and cut again to extend the fence for a wider card.

Bundle & Save!  Enjoy a 10% savings when you purchase both the Halloween Scenes Edgelit die cut set and the Spooky Fun stamp set, both featured here on this card!  enter #144437 on your order online. See page 52 in the Holiday catalog for all the details!

Penned and Painted Flower Cards

Yes, I know it's fall, and the weather is changing and all that jazz, but you know me.. I HAVE to stamp with flowers all year long!! :)  I am super excited to share this "one sheet wonder" Penned & Painted flower card idea with you!

One Sheet Wonder note cards featuring Stampin' Up! Penned & Painted stamp set, by Patty Bennett at www.PattyStamps.com

Aren't these so pretty!?  I used a Bright color combo of black, white, Melon Mambo and Cucumber Crush for these cards.

I started out by stamping a full 8-1/2" x 11" sheet of Whisper White with these pretty flowers and then cutting the sheet into 4x4 pieces and 4x3 pieces until my sheet was used up.   Each sheet will yield 6 pieces for 6 cards as shown in these photos.

Your Choice!

Use this stamp set with our without the outline image ... I selected black for the outline but you could also create a more subtle look with a different outline color, OR don't use the outline at all!

Which one do you like best?  I love them both!

Look at all the pieces in this set!  You can use it in so many different ways.  I used 6 of the pieces for the flowers and leaves, plus the dot on the HOPE card below.

The striking black accents above are White Perfect Accents (#138416) colored with a black Sharpie marker!!

I mounted my stamped flower pieces onto folded Melon Mambo and Whisper White cards, and accented them with black and white or Cucumber Crush and white Designer papers from the big paper stacks on page 174 in the annual catalog.

Instead of stamped sentiments, I added die cut greetings from the Sunshine Wishes thinlit set (#141489).  Each one was die cut with Melon Mambo cardstock and added to the card with Multipurpose glue.

In keeping with the color scheme, I added either 1/8" Melon Mambo ribbon, or the 5/8" Cucumber Crush ribbon to each card.

I wanted my sunshine die cut to stand out on this card so I put it on top of a piece of vellum!  What a neat touch.. it turned out perfect!

How to Color Irresistibly Floral Paper - Video Tutorial

Video Tutorial Today!!

I have been wanting to shoot this video for 2 months!!!! Where does the time go!?  Sorry it took so long!!  Today I will show you how I colored the Irresistibly Floral paper from Stampin' Up! QUICKLY with Stampin' Sponges!!  Then I cut up the 12x12 sheet to make 6 cards!

Video Tutorial for Irresistibly Floral Happy Day cards by Patty Bennett. Learn how to color this great emboss resist paper! www.pattystamps.com

I absolutely LOVE this paper and all the floral patterns in the package.  There are 6 patterns in the pack, 2 of each, so you get 12 of the 12x12 sheets in the pack #141644.

My favorite new FAST way to color the paper is with the whole Stampin' Sponge! Watch the video tutorial below to see how QUICK it is to color the entire sheet!  Then cut it up per my directions at the bottom of this post to create 6 quick card fronts!

I mounted each of the pieces onto a top-fold Daffodil Delight card, and then added some Watermelon Wonder striped ribbon and the Oh Happy Day stamped piece.

Oh Happy Day is stamped in Watermelon Wonder ink on Whisper White cardstock and die cut with the Layering Circles framelits.  The same framelit package also has the scalloped circles, so I die cut the scallops in Flirty Flamingo paper for a nice contrast.

The butterflies are both punched out of Stampin' Up! Watermelon Wonder cardstock and the little left over 1-1/2"x4" pieces of the colored Irresistibly Floral paper.

It's a Birthday Fiesta Card!!

You may have seen me mention Eric's birthday last week on Facebook.. we celebrated all weekend long and I thought you'd enjoy one of the cards I gave him!! I love this happy Fiesta Birthday card featuring stamps and paper from the Stampin' UP! catalog!

Festive birthday card with stamped cactus from the Birtthday Fiesta stamp set, and Festive Birthday designer paper.

Stampin' Up! featured products from my online store:

  • Festive Birthday Designer Paper, pg 173 #141630
  • Birthday Fiesta stamp set, pg 11, #141500
  • {Googlie eyes from the craft store}

The idea came from my friend Leonie!  I found THIS CARD when I was scouting Pinterest, and loved it!

I stamped the cactus stamp 3 times, and the streamers several times in various colors, then matted it onto Tempting Turquoise and then onto a Crushed Curry folded card that was covered with one of the Festive Birthday designer paper patterns.

I was thinking ... where did she find those cute sombreros, guitars and pinata??  Well.. it's pretty clever.. she cut them out of the Festive Birthday paper package on pg 173 !!  whohooo!

See my tip below and be sure to pin it to your stamping tips board!

Use paper snips to cut out cute images for your Festive birthday card with stamped cactus from the Birtthday Fiesta stamp set, and Festive Birthday designer paper.

Did you notice the cute streamers above the mariachi cactus guys??  That stamp is also in the Birthday Fiesta stamp set (pg 11) and since it's photo polymer, you can bend it to create any shape!

The grass is from the Thoughtful Branches stamp set.

On the inside of the card I added some strips of paper from the Festive Birthday paper pack and a stamped image from the Badges & Banners set (pg 89) punched out with the matching Best Badge punch (pg 186, #140633).

Birthday Card inside greeting with stamped Badges & Banners set from Stampin UP!

Here is the birthday boy with some of his cards!  Thank you Wendy and Cindee for the handstamped cards, and dad for the watercolor masterpiece card, and to everyone else for remembering his special day!

Eric - the birthday boy with handstamped cards!

I love the bright zippy Stampin' Up! color combo for this great Festive Birthday designer paper:

Color fusers blog hop august

Welcome to part 1 of the August Color Fusers Design Team Blog Hop, featuring 3 wonderful Stampin' Up!  Colors: Cherry Cobbler, Smoky Slate and Watermelon Wonder!  We are so glad you have joined us on this blog hop and hope you enjoy all of the cards and projects we have to share with you!  Please be sure to click on all of the links at the bottom of this post to visit all of the wonderful Stampin' UP! blogs!

Today I have 2 projects for you, both featuring the new Thoughtful Branches bundle which will be available tomorrow, Aug. 2 for customer purchase, and our August Color Fuse color combo.  See below in this post for the ordering info for the stamp set, the dies or the bundle.

Thoughtful Branches 3x3 notecard by Patty Bennett featuring Stampin' UP! bundle, paper, and accessories available at www.pattystamps.com

My first card with our Cherry Cobbler, Watermelon Wonder and Smoky Slate color combo features the "flower" or "tree top" portion of the die from this bundle.  I stamped the image in Watermelon Wonder ink onto Watermelon Wonder cardstock and die cut it, then added it to a scrap of Whisper White, per my instructions below.

This is a little 3x3 gift card, to be added to a gift bag or wrapped box.

Create a fun background with the Thoughtful Branches die cut for this 3x3 notecard by Patty Bennett featuring Stampin' UP! bundle, paper, and accessories available at www.pattystamps.com

I added a mat of Cherry Cobbler cardstock and layered it onto a folded 3x3 Watermelon Wonder card. The striped paper and "for you" in the Smoky Slate color completes the color combo challenge.  The silver ribbon just finishes it off perfectly!  The sweet scalloped Smoky Slate piece of cardstock was die cut using the new Layering Circles framelits from Stampin' Up!

---------------------------------------------------------------------

More info on Thoughtful Branches Bundle available Aug. 2nd:

The bundle features a 20+  piece stamp set and 9 dies in the framelit set!  This will be a limited time offer set in August, starting Aug. 2nd while supplies last.. so be sure to add this to your August shopping list! :)  Click to download a .pdf showing this great bundle!

Card #2, also featuring our August Color Fuse combo, features the stamps from the Thoughtful Branches set and subtle background colors applied with the Sponge Brayer on Whisper White cardstock.

Use a Sponge Brayer for a soft background for this Thoughtful Branches card by Patty Bennett featuring Stampin' UP! bundle, paper, and accessories available at www.pattystamps.com

I was aiming for a soft sunset feeling with this background so I applied color with my Sponge Brayer to the Whisper White cardstock with Cherry Cobbler at the top, then some Watermelon Wonder, and then the Smoky Slate for the "ground".  I stamped the trees and grass from the Thoughtful Branches set in Smoky Slate ink, and the bird and greeting in Cherry Cobbler ink.  I love the greetings and font in this stamp set, don't you!?

Watermelon Wonder striped ribbon finishes off the card.  Layers of Watermelon Wonder and Smoky Slate patterned paper on the folded Cherry Cobbler card complete the Color Fuse trio for this months challenge.
